Use the alphabet below when one of Neville's own terms feels unclear. The glossary does not define every ordinary word, place or character Neville mentioned. It focuses on the language that helps you understand and practice his teaching.

Abdullah

Neville's teacher, who helped him read Scripture psychologically and trust assumption as a living principle rather than a theory.

Abiding In The End

Remaining inwardly in the fulfilled state until it becomes familiar. It is a quiet form of persistence, not a tense effort to hold a thought.

Acceptance

The inward consent that a desired state is true now. Acceptance is quieter than effort; it feels like the end has been granted within.

Accord

Inner agreement with the desired state. When imagination, feeling and identity are in accord, the end feels natural rather than divided.

Act Of Faith

An inward act that treats the unseen fulfilled state as real before the senses confirm it.

Acting In Imagination

Entering an imaginal scene as the one experiencing it, not watching it from a distance. Neville's scenes are first-person and imply completion.

Acts Of The Mind

The inward movements that matter in Neville's teaching: assuming, imagining, revising, accepting, hearing inwardly and identifying with a state.

All Things Are Possible

Neville uses this idea to point back to consciousness. What seems impossible to the senses can be entered inwardly as a state already existing.

Already Done

The inner feeling that the desire is settled. The mind no longer treats the desire as something to chase, plead for or postpone.

Appropriation

Taking the desired state as your own in consciousness. It is not hoping to receive; it is inward possession.

Assumed State

The state you accept as true of yourself now. The assumed state quietly governs thoughts, reactions, expectations and expression.

Assumption

The state accepted as true. In Neville's teaching, an assumption persisted in becomes fact because consciousness is creative.

Study assumption

Assumption Hardened Into Fact

Neville's phrase for an accepted assumption becoming visible experience. It describes the movement from inner acceptance to outer fact.

Attention

The faculty that feeds a state. What attention repeatedly returns to becomes familiar, natural and easier to live from.

Study attention

Authority

The inner authority of I AM. Neville asks you to stop giving final authority to appearances and accept the state from within.

Awakened Imagination

Imagination recognized as divine creative power, not fantasy. An awakened imagination is used knowingly and reverently.

Awakening

The discovery that the true self is more than the outer personality. In Neville's later work, awakening belongs to the Promise.

Awareness

The basic consciousness of being. Neville links awareness with I AM, the foundation to which every condition is added.

Babylon

A Scripture image Neville may use for confusion, captivity or life governed by appearances rather than awakened consciousness.

Being

The felt identity of who you are. Neville asks for a change of being, because outer life follows the state of being accepted within.

Belief

A conviction lived from. Belief is not merely agreeing with an idea; it is accepting a state as real enough to think, feel and act from it inwardly.

Believing You Have Received

Accepting the fulfilled end before it is seen. Neville treats this as the heart of prayer.

Birth From Above

A central experience of the Promise in Neville's later teaching, connected with spiritual birth and divine awakening.

Blessing

In Neville's Scripture teaching, blessing is connected with identity, inheritance and the state accepted as yours.

Born Of God

Promise language for divine birth. It points to awakening from above rather than an improved outer personality.

Brazen Impudence

Neville's phrase for bold, faithful persistence in the fulfilled end despite appearances that seem to contradict it.

Breathing In The Feeling

A simple way to let the fulfilled state become bodily and natural, especially when entering SATS or quiet prayer.

The natural series of events, movements and encounters by which the accepted imaginal act finds expression in the outer world.

Neville's name for the outer world of facts, duties, institutions and appearances. Caesar is not denied; he is placed beneath consciousness.

Called

In the Promise, being called belongs to the unfolding of divine awakening. It is not personal achievement; it is grace fulfilled.

Cause

The inner state, assumption or imaginal act that precedes outer expression. Neville places cause within consciousness.

Change Of Consciousness

The real change Neville asks for: leaving one state of being and occupying another until it feels natural.

Changing The Feeling Of I

Changing what follows I AM. Neville teaches that life changes when the felt identity changes.

Chosen State

The state deliberately selected and occupied instead of the state suggested by appearances.

Christ

The creative power and wisdom of God within man. Neville often identifies Christ with imagination awakened within consciousness.

Circumstances Do Not Matter

Neville's practical reminder that circumstances are not the creative cause. The state accepted within is the place of creative power.

Claim

To take a state inwardly as yours. A claim in Neville's work is psychological possession, not outer force.

Command

The authority of I AM when a state is accepted as true. Command is inward certainty, not strain.

Conception

The moment an idea or desire is accepted within. Neville often treats inner conception as the beginning of outer birth.

Conscious Assumption

An assumption deliberately chosen instead of passively inherited from habit, fear or sense evidence.

Consciousness

The central reality in Neville's teaching. Consciousness is the state from which life is met and out of which experience is expressed.

Controlled Imagination

Imagination used deliberately toward the fulfilled end, rather than allowed to wander through old stories and unwanted possibilities.

Conviction

The settled inner knowing that the imaginal act is real. Conviction replaces anxious checking.

Creation Is Finished

Neville's teaching that every possible state already exists and is entered by consciousness. Manifesting is selection, not creation from nothing.

Creative Power

The power of imagination to produce experience through the state accepted within.

Creative Word

The inward word or declaration that carries the authority of I AM. Neville's creative word is rooted in consciousness, not empty affirmation.

Crucifixion

In Neville's later teaching, crucifixion belongs to God entering the human experience and wearing the garment of flesh.

Daily Revision

Using Revision at the end of the day to change the inner record of events and sleep from the revised state.

David

The son who reveals the Father in Neville's Promise teaching. David is central to Neville's mystical interpretation of Scripture.

Study David

Dead Past

The past has no creative life unless consciousness continues to carry it. Revision removes the past as an active state.

Definite Chief Aim

A clear desire or objective held in imagination. Neville's practice works best when the end is definite enough to imply completion.

Definite Objective

The clearly chosen end. A definite objective gives imagination something precise to enter and accept.

Denial Of The Senses

Not pretending the senses do not exist, but refusing to let sense evidence be the final authority over the assumed state.

Desire

A movement of consciousness seeking expression. Neville does not treat desire as wrong; he teaches fulfilling it inwardly through assumption.

Study desire

Divine Identity

The deeper identity revealed in Neville's mystical work: God awakens in man and discovers Himself as the true I AM.

Divine Sonship

Promise language for the revelation of the Father through David. It belongs to Neville's mystical teaching, not manifestation technique.

Door

A Scripture image Neville often reads inwardly. The true door is a state of consciousness entered from within.

Double-Mindedness

Divided inner acceptance. Neville's answer is to choose the fulfilled state and remain loyal to it until the end feels natural.

Doubt

Attention returning to the old state or to appearances as final authority. Doubt is answered by returning to the fulfilled state.

Dream Of Life

Neville's way of describing human experience as a state from which God awakens through the Promise.

Drowsy State

The relaxed, receptive condition near sleep. Neville uses it because resistance is lower and the imaginal act can feel real more easily.

Dwelling Place

A state consciousness lives in. Neville often speaks as though states are places entered, occupied and left.

End

The fulfilled condition after the desire is complete. Neville teaches beginning from the end instead of moving toward it mentally.

Entering The State

Moving inwardly into the identity, feeling and assumptions of the fulfilled condition.

Eternal Body

A Promise term connected with the true divine identity beyond the temporary garment of flesh.

Eternal States

States are not created and destroyed by the outer world; they exist as possibilities consciousness may enter and leave.

Everyone Is Yourself Pushed Out

Neville's teaching that others and circumstances reflect consciousness. It points back to self-change, not blame.

Exodus

In Neville's inner reading of Scripture, exodus points to leaving bondage to appearances and moving into a freer state.

Facts

Outer conditions and visible evidence. Neville does not make facts first cause; he places them under consciousness.

Faith

Loyalty to the unseen state accepted in imagination. Faith remains with the end before the senses show evidence.

An imaginal scene experienced through your own eyes and senses, as though it is happening to you now.

Fixed Attention

Attention held steadily on the fulfilled state until it gathers naturalness and conviction.

Forgiveness

A change of state through Revision. Forgiveness releases the old version of a person, event or self-image by accepting the revised inner fact.

Former State

The old identity or condition of consciousness that used to feel natural. Neville's work is to leave it and occupy the new state.

Four Mighty Ones

A phrase from Neville's lectures connected with deep spiritual symbolism and the powers or aspects involved in awakening.

Fourth Dimension

Neville's way of speaking about a deeper reality beyond ordinary sense perception, where states exist and can be entered imaginatively.

Freedom

Good Report

Grace

The unearned nature of the Promise. In Neville's later teaching, awakening is given and fulfilled by God within man.

Grace And Law

The Law concerns imagining and assumption; grace belongs especially to the Promise, where awakening is given rather than earned.

Habitation

A state lived in. Neville often treats consciousness as dwelling in a state the way a person dwells in a house.

Harvest

The outer expression of an inner seed. In Neville's teaching, the harvest follows what has been planted and accepted within.

Hearing Congratulations

A Neville practice of hearing someone congratulate you from the fulfilled end, making completion feel present and personal.

Hearing In Imagination

Using inner hearing to accept words that would naturally be spoken after fulfillment, such as congratulations or loving confirmation.

Heaven Within

The kingdom or heaven understood as an inward state, not a distant place reached after death.

Human Form Divine

A phrase Neville uses for the divine mystery expressed in and through the human form.

Human Imagination

Neville's name for the divine creative power within you. Human imagination is not small; it is God in action.

I

I AM

The fundamental awareness of being. Every state is something added to I AM, and changing the added condition changes the experience.

I Remember When

A Neville practice of placing the old condition in the past by remembering it from the standpoint of fulfillment.

Identity

The self being accepted within a state. Neville's work changes identity, not just surface thoughts.

Imaginal Act

A deliberate inner experience that implies the desire is already fulfilled.

Perfect State

The End

The completed result. Neville tells you to begin there inwardly.

The Father

In the Promise, the divine identity revealed when David calls the awakened one Father.

The Fourth Man

A Promise-related image from Daniel that Neville connects with the immortal divine presence in the furnace of human experience.

The Garment Of Flesh

Neville's phrase for the physical body as something worn by the deeper being during the human journey.

The Human Garment

The body and outer identity temporarily worn by consciousness. It is not the final self in Neville's mystical teaching.

The Law And The Promise

Neville's distinction between practical imagining and mystical fulfillment. The Law concerns manifestation; the Promise concerns divine awakening.

The New Man

The new identity accepted in consciousness. It is the self that belongs to the fulfilled state.

The Old Man

The former identity or state that belongs to the old story. Neville's work asks you to leave it by entering the new state.

The divine pattern of Scripture fulfilled in every person: resurrection, birth from above, David and ascent.

The Pearl Of Great Price

Neville's phrase for surrendering belief in outside causes and accepting imagination as the only creative power.

The Potter

Neville's use of the biblical potter image points to the creative power shaping experience from within. Consciousness is the molder, and the visible life is the formed vessel.

The Revealed Word

Scripture understood through direct inner experience rather than inherited doctrine alone.

The Senses

The faculties reporting appearances. Neville teaches using them wisely while refusing to make them the creative cause.

The Skull

In Neville's Promise testimony, the skull is the tomb from which resurrection and birth from above are experienced.

The Son

In the Promise, the Son is revealed through David. This revelation discloses the awakened one as Father.

The Tomb

In Neville's Promise teaching, the tomb is experienced within the skull, where resurrection takes place.

The Veil

The covering that hides the divine identity. Neville may speak of flesh, garment or appearances as veiling the Being within.

The Word

Creative expression or inner declaration. In Neville's Scripture language, the Word is tied to consciousness and creative power.

Thinking From

Thinking from the fulfilled state instead of thinking of the desire as absent.

Thinking Of

Considering a desire from the outside, as something not yet possessed. Neville contrasts this with thinking from the end.

True Prayer

Prayer as the acceptance of fulfillment. Neville's true prayer is not asking from lack but entering the state in which the request is answered.

Unconditioned Awareness

The pure sense of I AM before any condition is added.

Union With The State

Becoming one with the state so it no longer feels separate from your identity.

Unseen Cause

The inner state that produces outer conditions. Neville asks you to work with the unseen cause rather than battle effects.

Unseen Reality

The accepted inner fact before it becomes visible to the senses.
